We Re-Open on Monday + Benefit Party + Fashion Show

Thanks to everyone who showed up to the Fire Sale and Workday on Saturday, and/or gave donations. We sold or gave away most of our smoky clothes, chatted with our regular customers and met lots of new customers who only heard about Treasure City because of the fire.
The best news is that we will re-open on Monday morning at 11am. We expect to spend most of the week sorting new donations and getting the store re-organized, so if it looks a little haphazard, that's why.
UP IN SMOKE BENEFIT - Saturday 9/15
To help raise money for the store and to celebrate the wonderful community that supports us, we are having a Benefit Show & Party on Saturday, September 15th, 9pm to 2am at the Rhizome Collective Warehouse, 300 Allen Street in East Austin.
Food, Drink, Fire Dancing and Music featuring Many Birthdays, Benko and DJ Bullet. View/download the flyer here

Treasure City Thrift Catches FIRE
Early on the morning of Thursday, August 16, 2007, Treasure City Thrift caught fire. The fire started in the Free Box in front of the store, where donated items that we could not sell were available for free to anyone. The fire damaged the front or the store, and smoke from the fire has possibly ruined much of the clothing department. Also, in their effort to extinguish the fire and stop its spread, the fire department had to punch numerous holes in the wall, as well as break open the gate and door on the east side of the building. The fire exposed a lot of wiring so the store is without electricity until we can get an electrician to repair it. It appears that the fire was set deliberately.

We are all saddened and disappointed by this loss, but are determined to get the project up and running again, so we can return to our work of providing support and material resources for the local grassroots community. We do not yet have an estimate for how much repairs will cost us, but given the extent of the damage and the loss of business due to the fire, we are asking for donations to help us get back on our feet. Free or discounted electrician services are needed. Other repair services may be needed. Money in whatever amount you can afford is definitely needed. You can send us money through PayPal, or contact us via email for other offers.

What's happening at Treasure City?
A lot actually. We rearranged the bay area to make it less cluttered and more inviting. We have set up a free box outside to give stuff away. We have discounted our blue tag merchandise (see previous post). J Muzacz has gotten youth from the community to start the first mural on the exterior of Treasure City. And a lot more! Come by and check out all the happenings and see what new and wonderful merchandise is for sale.
